Clogged Sewer Warning Signs
By: Monika
As much as you may hate dealing with a clogged drain or toilet, chances are you’re relieved when you can break it up on your own. Lose a little time, save a little money: the ultimate fair trade.
Then you have all those other times. Okay, let’s hope “all” is too big of a word. But live in your home long enough, and sooner or later you’re going to require the services of a professional drain cleaning company.
We hope that day isn’t today. But if it were, and the problem was a clogged sewer, would you even know, given that your sewer lines are mostly underground? Fortunately, there are several warning signs alerting you to the possibility of a clogged sewer drain.
Here are some of them:
- A big increase in your water bill. One possible explanation is a leak in your sewer pipes.
- Reduced water flow or pressure. A water leak will naturally reduce water pressure and the amount of water flowing from a sink, tub, or toilet.
- Unpleasant odors. A break or crack in your sewer line is going to generate some pretty nasty odors. These stem from scaping sewer gases or excess moisture inside your ceilings, walls, and floors.
- Repeated clogged drain problems. An occasional clogged drain? That’s to be expected. But when you experience one after another, it indicates a bigger problem, especially if the same toilet or drain keeps clogging.
- Patches of wet or lush grass. Raw sewage isn’t all bad, believe it or not. It contains nutrients that cause lawns, trees, shrubs to flourish. So, should you notice certain areas of your property more verdant than others – or, a damp spot or two when the rest is dry – you can be pretty sure you have an underground drain problem.
