If you haven’t purchased a new AC system within in the past several years, there’s a lot that’s new, and plenty more to like.
First, the minimum SEER rating for a new AC system is now 13 when it once was 8. That means today’s systems are far more energy efficient, with energy efficiency ratings as high as 95%.
If your older system employs Freon as a refrigerant, those days are gone, too. Freon has not been available in new AC systems since 2009, having been replaced by R410A, a more environmentally friendly cooling agent manufactured without ozone-depleting chlorine.
Plus, with variable speed control, better compressors, better sound reduction, improved controls, programmable thermostats, and a host of other new and improved features, today’s selection of central AC systems is a joy to experience.
